Sugar-free Maryland cookies from Burton’s

Burton’s Biscuit Company has launched a sugar free version of its Maryland Cookies, to target those looking for sweet treats but wanting to cut down on sugar.

The cookies are sweetened with maltitol – which Burton’s said has half the calories of sugar and does not promote tooth decay. As a result, a serving of two sugar-free cookies contains just 0.1g of sugar, compared to 7.3g in two original Maryland Choc Chip Cookies.

Kate Needham, marketing and insight director at Burton’s Biscuit Company, said: “Currently, far too many sugar free options across many categories are regarded by consumers as boring and bland.

“Maryland Sugar Free Cookies gives consumers the best of both worlds – a great-tasting biscuit from one of Britain’s best loved biscuit brands, and a product that is ideal for the growing number of shoppers looking for lower/no sugar alternatives.

“We are striving to achieve a 20% sugar and calorie reduction across our portfolio, with a robust programme in place. Since 2016 we have achieved a 20% sugar reduction on Jammie Dodgers and in 2018, delivered a 5% reduction on core Maryland and 10% on Maryland Minis as part of a wide-ranging portion control initiative.”

Maryland Sugar Free Cookies are available in 230g pack for £1.39.
