Milk chocolate Jaffa Cakes

McVitie’s could be set to introduce milk chocolate Jaffa Cakes. Jaffa Cakes have been coated in dark chocolate since 1927, but the makers are considering a milk chocolate alternative to cater for Britain’s increasingly sweet tooth.

McVitie’s has previously experimented with different fillings for the product, including blackcurrant and strawberry flavours. However, these have not proved very successful, possibly due to the fact that Jaffa Cakes are inherently known as an orange product.

The UK population are known to be a milk chocolate loving nation. A report from Mintel states that 83% of people like milk chocolate, whereas only 21% like dark chocolate. A milk chocolate Jaffa cake is likely to be a big hit.

It will be a while before we see this product on supermarket shelves, it requires significant investment as milk and dark chocolate are not processed using the same equipment.
