Approaching Christmas many manufacturers are considering how to differentiate their products from others on the shelves to drive sales.

For most of the year, adults are targeted. When buying for themselves adults often look to Fairtrade products which have a higher cocoa percentage. Whereas when they are purchasing for their children they prefer ‘free from products’ to reduce the risk of tooth decay etc.

However, as Christmas approaches there seems to be a shift towards making confectionery more fun. This seems to be in the form of adding toys to packs, or making the confectionery more interactive by allowing the consumer to custom make their own products eg including different types of toppings etc.

Another trend we can expect this Christmas, is a continuation of sharing packs. Christmas is a time for families and the traditional big tins of sweets that everyone can dip in to are likely to remain popular for years to come.
