Cake maker doubles capacity

Premier Foods is set to invest £20m at Carlton site to double capacity of Mr Kipling cake slices. The company intends to build a new production and packing line at its cakes manufacturing site in Fish Dam Lane, Carlton, Barnsley.

The new line will be able to produce around 300 million cake slices a year, doubling the company’s current capacity, to meet consumer demand for the Snack Pack wrapped sliced cakes. The Snack Pack range was introduced in 6 flavours in 2011.

The investment is expected to take 12 months to complete and will include the installation of a mixing station, oven and sophisticated packing robotics.

Jason Ramsay, factory general manager at the site, comments: “This investment is a strong vote of confidence by Premier Foods in the Carlton site and the Carlton workforce. We have been manufacturing Mr. Kipling cake at Carlton for many years and this latest news is a huge boost for all of us.”
