World Pasty Championships

The Eden Project, a tourist attraction in Cornwall, UK, containing the world’s largest indoor rainforest, has teamed up with TV chef James Strawbridge and a team of local suppliers to create a range of pasties. The pasties in the Eden Extraordinary range have gone on sale at Eden, ahead of the World Pasty Championships that will be held at Eden on 1 March .

Suppliers include Colwith Farm in Lostwithiel, who will grow the potatoes, Davidstow, Whalesborough Cheese and Cornish Gouda Co., Kittows of Fowey, who will supply the meat, and Trewithen Dairy. Crantock Bakery will be making the pasties to the Strawbridge’s recipe, and will supply them exclusively to Eden.

The ingredients from the pasties will be showcased during the day of the World Pasty Championships. The competition is open to amateurs as well as professionals, and entrants may submit traditional pasties as well as more outlandish creations.

This year’s World Pasty Championships will mark the start of Eden’s “Charity Begins in Cornwall” campaign, which will help ten small Cornish charities with their fundraising.
The campaign will match donations up to a value of £20,000.
In addition, The Championships are backed by the Cornish Pasty Association.
