Wellaby’s launches Simple Bakes

Wellaby’s has launched a savoury snack that it claims is free from most common allergens, including gluten.

Simple Bakes contain no gluten, nut, eggs or dairy and are lower in calories and fat than potato crisps. They contain extra protein, which helps consumers feel more satisfied.

The snacks are available to retailers and wholesalers in a range of flavours, including Pinch of Sea Salt & Pepper, Spicy Chilli and Smoky BBQ. Each 120g bag has an RRP of £1.79.

Wellaby’s says the light and crispy wholegrain snacks go against the historically ‘hard textured’ and ‘bland flavours’ that are often associated with gluten-free snacks, with a simple focus on moreish texture and great taste.

Sue Warren, strategic development director at Wellaby’s explains, “Consumers expect their snacks to contribute more towards their dietary needs today and whether that is linked to weight loss, health or allergens, empty calories are out and satisfaction and filling power are what makes the grade.”

She adds, “Also, with more consumers eating ‘on the go’, than ever before, that grazing culture becomes even more prevalent. Snacking is here to stay and consumers are demanding more options and greater value as a result.”
