Sunmo launches in UK
British snack brand, Sunmo, has launched its first, four-SKU range of hand-cooked and all-natural Plantain Crisps, securing listings in Selfridges and Whole Foods Market.
Sunmo’s Plaintain Crisps come in four flavours: Naturally Sweet, Sea Salt, Smoked Chilli and Sweet Cinnamon. They are hand-cooked, gluten-free and vegan, with Sunmo aiming to tap into demand for healthier crisp alternatives.
Each pack of Sunmo’s Plantain Crisps purchased provides a meal for an orphaned child in Nigeria. The brand is inspired by its founder’s own Nigerian heritage, with Sunmo meaning ‘come near, come together’ in one of the country’s native languages, Yoruba. This idea of coming together, eating together and using the language of food to support and nourish one another, is at the heart of the brand.

Sunmo makes its Plantain Crisps using fresh plantain, a starchy and less sugary relative of the banana that is highly nutritious and rich in essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients, including potassium, magnesium, and vitamins A, C and B6. Plantain is also high in fibre, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and is a rich source of easily digestible, complex carbohydrates, so is the perfect ingredient from which to create nutritious, fulfilling snacks that ward off hunger pangs for longer.
