PepsiCo will be reformulating its Frito Lay snacks in 2011 and hopes that by the end of the year, around half of its snacks will only contain natural ingredients to appeal to consumers looking for healthier products.

Lay’s potato chips, Tostitos tortilla chips and SunChips are among the snacks set to be targeted by the food giant. None of the snacks will contain any artificial or synthetic ingredients, including artificial flavours, preservatives and monosodium glutamate, the brand said.

“Many of the unflavoured snacks in our portfolio are already made with all natural ingredients, and we’ve focused on expanding our portfolio of products with all natural ingredients to include more of consumers’ favourite flavoured products,” says Ann Mukherjee, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Frito Lay.

Recently, PepsiCo announced it would be launching a pureed, drinkable fruit snack. Called Tropolis, it contains only 80 calories and will be launched in the US in the early part of 2011.
