Peruvian crisps enter UK market

Start-up business Viva La Papa is seeking retail and food service listings for its three-strong range of artisan crisps produced in Peru.

The Viva La Papa line-up, available now in Whole Foods Market, El Corte Ingles and others comes in “Anticucho BBQ”, “Mixed Chillies & Lime” and “Sal de Maras” flavours (rsp: £1.99/142g). A 42g format has joined the range and is available in high profile sandwich, coffee retailers and hotels (rsp: 89p).

Made from potatoes grown by farmers in the Peruvian Andes, the range ­contains no additives or ­artificial ingredients. Carbon emissions from exports are off set with Planetair.  

The company, founded in 2010 by Alec Cousins the former owner of sauces and soup producer Joubère ­introduced the range in Europe and the US earlier this year, and is expecting first-year sales of £1m. They are currently presenting to national and regional European distributors.”
