Candy Kittens range now fully vegan

Candy Kittens' Eton mess gourmet sweets are now vegan

London-based confectionery brand Candy Kittens has announced that its hugely popular product range is now fully vegan. This has always been an ambition for the brand, which considers sustainability to be a top priority, whilst keen to not jeopardise flavour or quality. This is why the brand has taken the time to develop a new formula for Eton Mess, free from beeswax, that it says will live up to the rest of the well-loved product range.

Candy Kittens says its aim has always been to create a responsible business, leaving the planet – and the confectionery sector – in a better place. In 2021 the brand realised a long-term goal, achieving carbon neutral status, both as a business and with their product range. For this, Candy Kittens works with a series of VCS certified carbon offset projects close to the brand’s heart. Supporting a forest protection project in Peru, which works with locals to preserve the rainforest, with Plastic Bank to reduce the amount of plastic entering our oceans and a wind farm in the Philippines.

In addition to this, and where the brand believes it is making the biggest difference, Candy Kittens is working to lower their emissions across its business and supply chain. The largest contributor to the carbon footprint generated by Candy Kittens is during the production of its sweets. This production process is now entirely carbon neutral and has been positively lowering the brand’s footprint since 2020.

Candy Kittens says its attention is now focused on how it can further incorporate sustainable packaging into the product range, as well as identifying new transport options that will help to reduce the mileage of product travel.

Co-founder and MD, Ed Williams says, “Eton Mess was the final piece in the puzzle, and I’m delighted that we’ve reached this 100% vegan milestone. More than simply removing an ingredient, we’ve redeveloped the entire process to ensure our Gourmet Sweets give consumers the very best sweet without any compromise on quality – sweets don’t need meat!”

The vegan food and drink sector has been growing exponentially and following COP26 and consumers’ growing environmental concerns it is anticipated to continue on this trajectory throughout 2022. Candy Kittens says it knows that its audience is well aligned with its core missions, so has always felt it was essential that its entire range was accessible to all.
