Push Chocolate launches low sugar chocolate buttons

Lower in sugar, higher in protein, vegan chocolate brand, Push Chocolate, has announced the launch of its new Low Sugar Chocolate Buttons, set to tap into the booming better-for-you, plant-based and allergen-free markets. On the back of a business loan from SWIG Finance with the backing of the British Business Bank’s Recovery Loan Scheme, the Cornish headquartered confectionery maker has rebranded its entire range of chocolate buttons with a renewed focus on expansion in 2022.

The launch of Push’s Low Sugar Chocolate Buttons is designed to open doors with the growing number of health-conscious consumers including diabetics. It will be available alongside the rest of the five-flavour strong rebranded range – including Original, Mint, Orange, Honeycomb and Salted Caramel – from the Push Chocolate website at an RRP of £4.99 per 100g pouch. The cocoa is sustainably sourced from the Peruvian rainforests and contains no palm oil. Beyond the product itself, Push has consciously chosen plastic-free recyclable pouches and packaging ensuring planet-friendly formulation throughout its production process.

Push Chocolate founder, Ant Wilson, commented: “I firmly and passionately believe that sugar should not be the first ingredient in any product. Instead, Push Chocolate’s range uses a smart formulation of exceptional quality ingredients to deliver melt-in-the-mouth, creamy chocolate with fantastic taste and top notch health credentials. Shoppers are becoming ever more conscious of their wellbeing and the sustainability of products. There is a real spotlight on the nation’s health and the looming HFSS deadline, provided the perfect time to put a renewed focus on driving distribution and sales of Push Chocolate. Our rebrand clearly communicates our ethos and USPs. Eye-catching and colourful labelling alongside planet-friendly packaging, and our newly launched Low Sugar Chocolate Buttons offer consumers an even healthier choice in our range.”

The demand for chocolate with higher cocoa is another trend gaining popularity with shoppers, as it tends to indicate lower sugar and higher quality. The entire Push Chocolate Buttons range has a minimum of 42% cocoa solids and uses more than 50% less sugar per 100g than mainstream brands. Push uses an unrefined sugar from Colombia, called panela sugar, alongside natural sweetener inulin (chicory root fibre). These additions allow the brand to create a sweet treat while using much less sugar than traditional products. Inulin also has the added benefit of being a prebiotic, which means it feeds the good bacteria in the gut and improves digestion.

Meanwhile, in order to pack a protein-filled punch, Push uses a mix of pea protein isolate and rice protein which when combined delivers an optimal amino acid profile which is very similar to whey protein, derived from dairy.
