Protein Pints expands nationally amid rising demand for high-protein ice cream

Protein Pints, a high-protein ice cream brand based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is expanding its retail footprint across the United States following a period of significant growth. The company, founded in 2023 by entrepreneurs Paul Reiss and Michael Meadows, reports increased demand from consumers seeking lower-sugar, higher-protein alternatives to traditional frozen desserts.
The brand’s five varieties – Cookie Dough, Peanut Butter Chip, Chocolate, Mint Chip, and Strawberry – contain 30 grams of protein per pint and are made with natural ingredients. Each option is marketed as having 85% less sugar than standard ice cream products.
Following earlier rollouts in regional grocery chains such as H-E-B, Fresh Thyme Market, and Woodman’s Markets, Protein Pints launched in all Kroger-owned stores in March. In May, the brand entered Target and Albertsons/Safeway stores nationwide, and is now set to expand into all Sprouts Farmers Market locations after a successful pilot.
This growth has seen the brand move from distribution in 14 stores within Michigan in 2024 to approximately 8,000 retail outlets by the end of May 2025.
Michael Meadows, co-founder and CEO, said, “The rate of uptake across retailers suggests strong consumer interest in higher-protein frozen desserts. Our performance to date indicates growing appetite for food products that combine nutrition with familiar indulgence categories.”
The expansion reflects broader shifts in consumer preferences, with increasing interest in products that prioritise both health and taste within the frozen dessert sector.
