Muffin Break targets commuters

National artisan bakery, Muffin Break, has expanded its offering by opening its first ever store in a train station location, which has connections to most parts of the UK.

The new café bakery opened its doors at the end of September in the heart of Birmingham’s city centre at the new Grand Central Shopping Centre, which is located directly above the Birmingham New Street station. As well as Muffin Break, the centre is home to more than 60 premium brands.

Traditionally Muffin Break café bakeries have been located within shopping centres, with almost 60 café bakeries spread across the UK to date. However, as part of Muffin Break’s ambitious expansion plans it has started to branch out into new locations such as train stations and hospitals. Earlier this year two stores were opened in retail parks, which was also a first for Muffin Break and further demonstrates its appetite for growth into new areas.

The new store in Birmingham is also the first to offer Muffin Break’s new Grab and Go service, which caters to the growing needs of busy commuters who are looking for quick and healthy food options, without having to queue.

Muffin Break general manager, Lisa Brook, says: “Opening a store in a train station location is an exciting new venture for Muffin Break and one we are looking forward to building upon across the UK.  The brand has delivered significant growth even through a tough period for retail, with 16 further new stores due to open before the end of the financial year, so there are plenty of opportunities for us.

“In addition, the launch of our new Grab and Go service at Birmingham is one of many more in the pipeline. With the introduction of modern street food, combined with increasingly busy lifestyles, grab and go food options are now an expectation for almost all catering establishments and one we are keen to expand further as part of our offering. We have lots of exciting plans coming up, so we are definitely one to be watching.”

Foodco UK managing director Michael Arbuckle comments: “We are extremely excited to be opening our first Muffin Break in a transportation hub, as well as pioneering the Grab and Go concept. We are looking forward to being part of the new Grand Central Shopping Centre and to providing future customers with healthy food options that they can easily pick up on their daily commute.”
