The Raw Chocolate Company is celebrating the news that its Goji Berry & Orange Raw Chocolate Bar has wowed judges in Great Taste 2013 by being awarded two Gold Stars. The food awards scheme involves more than 400 judges and thousands of hours of blind tasting.

Great Taste is simply about taste, not clever branding or smart packaging.  Judges are presented with, for example, a piece of cheese, a pie or a little dish of chutney, with no wrappings, jars or marks – and they taste, confer and re-taste before making the decision on whether a product should be a 1-, 2- or 3-star winner.  In total more than 12 judges will have tasted and commented on each product.

“We are honoured and stunned to receive this recognition and award. The judge’s comments were amazing.

“We set out in 2006 to make the very best chocolate. To this end we use only the purest ingredients and nothing artificial. Our organic, fairtrade Goji Berry and Orange Bar has just five ingredients – cacao, cacao butter, coconut sugar, goji berries and orange.

“What is more exciting is that we use the same basic recipe and techniques for all our six raw chocolate bars, so the award is also a reflection on our entire range. We’ve got a high standard to maintain now!” explained Linus Gorpe, founder of the Raw Chocolate Company.

Out of almost 10,000 products entered into Great Taste 2013, just 600 have been awarded two stars. A selection of the judge’s comments were:

“A well balanced chocolate bar, very rich and bitter.”
“The goji comes through the dark chocolate nicely.”
“Well tempered with a good snap. Gorgeous.”
“Lovely crack when broken, high quality chocolate.”
