Great Taste opens for entries

Great Taste, a blind tasted food and drink awards, opens for entry in February. Organised by the Guild of Fine Food and judged by hundreds of experts, the event has been running now for 20 years.
Chefs, buyers, fine food retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writer blind taste the food and provide feedback to producers, who are all competing for the gold and black Great Taste logo. Consumers increasingly recognize the logo as a sign of quality.
On Monday 10 February, members of the guild will be able to enter at the same price as last year, ahead of non-members. General entry will open on Monday 24 March and will close 21 March.
John Farrand, MD of the Guild of Fine Food and organizer of the event, says: “This year we have decided to cap the number of Great Taste entries at 10,000 and we wanted to give a clear benefit to our members who will be able to enter for 14 days at the same rate as last year before entry fully opens.
Winning a 1-star Great Taste award can be a real boon to producers, with increased sales and raised brand awareness through trade promotion by the Guild. The Great Taste logo encourages confidence in smaller businesses and can lead to further product development and expanded product ranges.
The announcement of the Supreme Champion 2014, sponsored by Harrods, will be made on the 8 September.
