Newsagent federation appoints president

The National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN) has appointed Kieran McDonnell as its new national president at the federation’s annual conference. Alan Smith has been appointed as its new vice-president of NFRN.

McDonnell says, “Independent newsagents are at the very heart of their communities and their survival is vital. Being an independent newsagent is not easy. We face an onslaught of competition from the supermarkets, rafts of legislation and the tide of economic recession. At no time has the independent newsagent needed his federation more so it is a huge honour for me to have been elected as its leader.”
