Premium plant-based chocolate brand lands UK-wide listings

With plans to build the ‘Oatly of Plant-Based Chocolate’, the Fellow Creatures brand has secured UK-wide listings with supermarket giant Sainsbury’s and retailer WH Smith.

With 37% of plant-based consumers claiming they want better tasting products, the plant-based food and drink market continues to diversify. Fellow Creatures’ Swiss chocolate, made using creamed coconut, provides a premium alternative to conventional dairy-based chocolate.

The plant-based range of treats now available nationwide includes Creamy Milkless Chocolate, Matcha White Chocolate and Salted Caramel Chocolate – a plant-based alternative to Caramac.

The landmark listings follow a successful investment round, which saw the ethical chocolate producer secure funds to help drive growth, with backing from industry leaders including the founder of Veganuary and entrepreneur Ryan Bethencourt.

Investment was secured through ProVeg International’s accelerator programme that helps plant-based brands raise funds. Selected from over 250 startups, Fellow Creatures was just one of six companies to be supported in the initiative’s 2020 cohort.

Keen to bolster the brand’s growth, Veganuary founder Matthew Glover is one of the main backers of Fellow Creatures. He commented: “We’ve seen the plant-based market boom in recent years, particularly with food and drink alternatives that are targeted at vegans and flexitarians alike.

“Fellow Creatures is one brand that has really hit a gap in the market for premium alternatives to our favourite foods, in this case, chocolate. I 100% believe in the business and look forward to supporting it through its ambitious growth plans.”

Originally from a long line of dairy farmers, the Hungarian-born vegan founder Zsolt Stefkovics took a different approach to developing chocolate with a dairy alternative that didn’t compromise on flavour.

Stefkovics commented: “Ever since going vegan, I found it difficult to find a chocolate that rivalled its dairy counterparts, so I set out to create my own.

“These new listings will go a long way to help strengthen our position as a leading plant-based chocolate and make non-dairy chocolate even more accessible.”

Fellow Creatures chocolate range is now available at WH Smith travel outlets across the country and 70 Sainsbury’s stores as part of the supermarket’s Taste of the Future incubation programme. Prices start from £3.
