Shore wins Great British Food Award 2021 for best savoury snack

Shore the Scottish Seaweed Company has won Best Savoury Snack for its Seaweed Chips at the Great British Food Awards 2021. This success closely follows Shore winning a Gold Nourish Award in the “Purely Plants” category. Shore has again impressed a panel of industry experts with their innovative concept of turning a sustainable, local superfood into better-for-you snacks that taste delicious.

The judging panel of the Savoury Snack category selected Shore as the winner for its innovative plant-based Seaweed Chips sourced from home-grown ingredients, including its sustainably hand-picked seaweed from the coasts of Wick in Caithness Scotland. The judges included top chef Miguel Barclay, who had this to say about the Sweet Sriracha flavour: “A tasty alternative to a crisp, seasoned perfectly with a hint of seaweed and a robust sriracha flavour to give these restaurant-quality snacks a nice spicy bite. Similar to prawn crackers, but these are not greasy and are 100% plant based.”

This award marks another important milestone in Shore’s vision to stay at the forefront of the healthier snacking revolution. Keith Paterson, joint-managing director, Shore, said: “At Shore our success is based on creating tasty plant-based seaweed snacks and foods that appeal to the growing number of mainstream health-conscious consumers who are increasingly seeking sustainably sourced foods. Winning this award is another great achievement for the company and we’re thrilled that people are recognising the seaweed we harvest – our local sustainable Scottish superfood – can, not only be turned into a better-for-you mainstream snack, but above all else, taste fantastic.”
