Lakrids by Bülow announces new listing in John Lewis

Gourmet Danish confectionery brand, Lakrids by Bülow, has announced that from September 2023, its products will be available in 23 John Lewis stores across the UK and online at johnlewis.com. Alongside five products from the brand’s core range,  including its most popular flavour D – Salt & Caramel, Lakrids by Bülow is launching four flavours from the Winter collection into John Lewis stores nationwide, available to purchase ahead of the festive season.

Lakrids by Bülow uses the finest ingredients to garner newfound appreciated for what was once an underappreciated sweet. Since Johan Bülow opened his first ever store in Svaneke in 2007, he has changed the way the Danes and Nordics view liquorice. Now, Lakrids by Bülow is on a mission to make the world love liquorice – and the UK is the next stop, having already witnessed strong growth in UK online sales.

CEO of Lakrids by Bülow, Fredrik Nilsson, stated, “We are thrilled to announce the launch of our chocolate coated liquorice into John Lewis, marking an exciting new chapter for the brand. We have witnessed a rising demand for our liquorice in the UK since landing on UK shores in 2021, so are delighted to be working with John Lewis to strengthen our presence and continue our dedicated mission of making the world love liquorice.”

Emma Issimdar, gift food buyer for John Lewis, said, “We’re really excited for Lakrids by Bülow to launch across a number of our shops and online. With the wide variety of flavours, unique chocolate coating, and chic monochrome packaging – we’re confident Lakrids by Bülow will be a real hit.”

Joining Selfridges, Fenwick, and Harvey Nichols, the new John Lewis listing is Lakrids by Bülow’s latest expansion into the UK, following the brands pop-up store in London’s St. Pancras Station earlier this year and its recent campaign, ‘We make the world taste liquorice’. The campaign saw the world’s largest liquorice tasting, in which 500,000 chocolate-coated liquorice tasters were distributed across the six countries including the UK.

With sustainability front of mind at each stage of production, Lakrids by Bülow uses recyclable packaging for all its products, with its latest innovation being recycled and reusable glass jars. Not only is Lakrids by Bülow the first confectionery producer in the world to make jars from 100% recycled and recyclable plastic, the glass jars have been designed for reuse. What’s more, since 2020, the factory has been running on 100% green energy.
