Saputo USA has announced the upcoming launch of Cheddarella String Cheese, a new product under its Frigo Cheese Heads range. The hybrid snack combines the flavour of cheddar cheese with the stringy texture of mozzarella, and is scheduled to arrive in stores nationwide from July 2025.
Cheddarella String Cheese is produced by incorporating real cheddar into the brand’s low-moisture part-skim mozzarella. The result is a snack designed to offer a stronger cheddar profile while maintaining the familiar stringiness associated with traditional string cheese.
The product will be sold in 12-count packs, with each individually wrapped stick weighing 0.833 oz (approximately 24g). According to Saputo, the new variety has been developed with young consumers in mind, referencing internal research indicating a preference among children for yellow cheddar over white.
“Cheddarella String Cheese represents our commitment to innovation, while continuing to offer the taste and texture that have made our string cheese popular,” said Jenny Englert, director of marketing at Saputo USA.
Cheddarella String Cheese will be available at a range of national retailers and convenience stores in the United States, including Albertsons, Whole Foods Market, Food Lion, and Hy-Vee, among others.
Frigo Cheese Heads is currently the top-selling string cheese brand in the U.S., according to Saputo.
