A Cornish fudge producer has secured a deal to supply National Trust stores across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Buttermilk Confectionery Co, based in Wadebridge, is now supplying about 60,000 packets of fudge a year to the National Trust. Managing director of The Buttermilk Confectionery Co, David Goad, says: “Our fudge can now be found in nearly 200 National Trust shops, including Dunham Massey near Manchester, Polesden Lacey in Surrey and Corfe Castle in Dorset. It’s is also available to buy from the National Trust’s online shop.

“We’ve been supplying National Trust shops in Cornwall since 2003. We want to grow the Buttermilk brand nationally, so to have our products stocked further afield is a really positive step for us.”

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the award-winning Buttermilk Confectionery Co is a family-run business that has been producing handmade fudge since the opening of its flagship shop in Padstow in 1964. Tracey Shea, assistant buyer for the National Trust, says: “Fudge has always been a firm favourite with our customers and repeatedly appears at the top of our bestsellers. It’s great to now have the opportunity to stock Buttermilk’s fudge range in all of our shops, especially as profits from everyday sales like confectionery are put straight back into our conservation work.

“We’ve selected some mouth-watering soft set fudge as well as hand broken fudge. We also have a gift box of assorted chocolate enrobed-fudge for Christmas, which is wickedly indulgent and very moreish, and will be the perfect treat to give as a present.”
