Mars debuts new protein bars

Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats has launched two new protein bars in the UK under its namesake and Snickers brands.

The Mars Protein bar has 19g of protein, while the Snickers Protein bar has 18g of protein. Both are 200 calories.

Protein bars is a fast growing category, and according to data from Neilsen, sales are valued at £22 million ($31.8m), up 58.4% from last year.

“Protein consumption is on the increase and has made the transition from niche to mainstream,” says Michelle Frost, general manager for Mars Chocolate Drinks and Treats.

“We are keen to offer consumers more choices on how to enjoy their favourite chocolate brands. Our bars combine great taste, familiar brands, clearly labelled protein content to meet growing consumer demand.”

Both bars have a recommended retail price of £2.19.
