Deep fried Twinkies arrive in US

US food firm Hostess is rolling out frozen deep fried Twinkies – funnel cake-battered sponge cake with a creamy filling this summer.

The pre packed deep fried Twinkies are dipped in funnel cake batter and flash fried before they are frozen and can be heated up in a toaster or regular oven. They are available in two flavours: Classic and Chocolate.

They will be available at Wal-Mart stores across the US, rolling out to grocery stores and other mass retailers later in the year.

Ellen Copaken, vice president of marketing at Hostess Brand, said, “Bringing the Twinkie to the freezer aisle is another way to extend the iconic Hostess brand to other parts of the store.”
