The riots across the UK have obviously had an effect on retailers of confectionery items. While multiples have been targeted, it can be even more devastating to the convenience retailers affected.

Sweet Charity, the charity for the UK confectionery industry, has created an emergency fund to help convenience retailers affected by the recent riots.Sweet Charity director general Patrick Davis notes, “With the recent troubles affecting members of our industry it is great that in such a short space of time we have already been able to create an emergency fund, over and above our usual grant programme to help retailers and their employees most affected by the recent riots”. The charity helps people who work in shops where confectionery is a core category, such as newsagents, CTNs and convenience stores.

Retailers who think they may qualify for support are advised to contact Sweet Charity on 020 7404 5222 or visit www.sweetcharity.net. Companies who wish to help convenience retailers directly affected by the riots are encouraged to contact Sweet Charity.

We hope you are all safe.
