Poppets, the bite-size treat that started life in cinema usherette trays in the 1920s, is returning to its cinema roots with the launch of Poppets Popcorn.

Big Bear Confectionery is launching Poppets Toffee Popcorn in two formats, 250g sharing bags and 6 x 25g multi-packs, which are ideal for portion control. The product has started to hit stores this month, both with a recommended £1 retail price. Listings are already scheduled in Poundland, Poundworld, 99p Stores and B&M Bargains.

Ross Stanley, head of trade marketing at Big Bear, says: “Poppets toffee and fondant-filled chocolates have remained firm favourites since 1929 and the Poppets brand has very high recognition among core popcorn consumers. This is a very natural transition for the brand and response from the trade is extremely positive.

“Popcorn is growing five times faster than nuts and crisps in the snacks sector and we believe that the quality of our product is as good, if not better, than the brand leader. We’ll be supporting the launch extensively, particularly in cinemas, theme parks and through social media, as part of our current £500,000 brand marketing programme.”
