Lust for chocolate down under

That’s it – I’m setting up Sweets & Snacks Australia next. A new report down under suggests that Australians love chocolate more than they love sex.

According to the Australian Daily Telegraph, the survey has found that one in four consumers has indulged in a chocolate-only breakfast, lunch or dinner, and one in three has drowned their sorrows by eating an entire block.

The survey was commissioned by retailer Max Brenner and notes that doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers desire chocolate more than any other profession. Almost one in five says they devour chocolate four to five times a week. The unemployed and retail staff eat the least.

Overall, 15% crave the confectionery every day, compared with 8% who admit a constant urge for sex. So, good news for chocolate manufacturers and retailers, however, why make people choose between these two pleasures? I’m sure Australians can envisage a variety of combinations of the two but that may be a topic for another type of newsletter entirely…

Until next week,
