Serbia reports sweet surplus
According to the Serbian news agency Tanjug, Serbia recorded a €45 million surplus in its confectionery trade over the first 9 months of 2011 – up 27% compared to the same period in 2010.
The Serbian Chamber of Commerce said that the country – who’s economy suffers a continuous trade deficit – earned a total of €106 million from the confectionery trade from January to September.
Export grew by 8.4%, amounting to €75.4 million, while imports fell by 10.7%, to around €30 million. A total of 93,100 tonnes of confectionery was produced in Serbia over the observed period, approximately 8% less than the production volume in 2010.
