5p levy for chewing gum?

There have been proposals to introduce a 5p levy to chewing gum in Wales. The proceeds will go towards publicity campaigns encouraging people not to litter. It will also help councils pay to clean up dropped chewing gum from the pavements.

Chewing gum manufacturer Wrigley believes that introducing a tax would unfairly punish the majority of people who throw chewing gum away responsibly.
