Big and small

There’s nothing nicer than getting out and about and meeting confectionery producers big and small. Ultimately, it’s all about the people and it’s a real bonus that such a fun industry tends to attract great people.

Last week I met Ed and Richard, the founders of superfood chocolate brand Doisy and Dam, to hear all about how they started out and what their plans are for the future of the brand. It’s always inspiring to meet young entrepreneurs with passion and integrity. Not only is it inspiring, but it is an ethos that is winning over an increasing number of consumers both in the UK and abroad. With new flavours in the pipeline and plans for diversification under discussion, there are exciting times ahead for the brand, which has tapped into two key trends – superfood ingredients and artisan production. I was also invited to attend the annual Ferrero Christmas briefing in London’s Notting Hill. Of course, it was a pleasure to hear about the brand’s performance and new product plans while nibbling on Ferrero Rocher. As always, Ferrero stands out in the category in terms of individual brand performance and is committed to supporting retailers to ensure products stand out during the seasonal shopping period.

Despite a distinct lack of sunshine in the UK at present, it is at times easy to forget that it is supposed to be summer! And for those working in the food and drink industry, it’s full steam ahead for those Christmas ranges. We look forward to hearing about your plans for the season…
