Doughnuts all round

I could start by asking you how you like your doughnuts, but I won’t.

It’s National Doughnut week – not only an excuse to eat as many delicious jam, chocolate or ring baked goods as you like, but it’s also a chance to raise money for charity.

Participating bakers across the UK aim to increase sales this week while raising money for The Children’s Trust, which supports children with brain injuries.

In other doughnut news, Krispy Kreme earlier this week revealed it will be acquired by Douwe Egberts owner JAB Holding in a deal worth $1.35bn. Just think how many doughtnuts could be bought with that amount of money. The deal is set to close in the third quarter, after which the company will be privately owned.

Krispy Kreme operates over 1,100 shops in more than 26 countries, selling every type of doughnut possible, including glazed, Nutty Chocolatta, Billionaire and white chocolate and raspberry.

In the upcoming issue of Confectionery Production, readers can look forward to the regular industry, packaging and equipment news as well as features on cooking and depositing, flavours and colours, and sleeve wrapping.

And of course, I like my doughnuts ‘with jam in’.
