Intersnack invests in new innovation centre

Intersnack, the major snack producer, has recently completed an investment of some £50,000 in new innovation facilities at its Tanfield, UK headquarters.

Continued growth of the business has led to an increased requirement for space and equipment. A new product development kitchen has been created from where the Intersnack team will develop new recipes for all kinds of snack products – from popcorn, nuts, seeds and fruit mixes to chips, pretzels and crackers.

Because Tanfield is a nut-free operation, the new facility is sited in a separate building close to the main site. It has a full range of pilot equipment enabling all the key technologies from Intersnack’s three UK production sites (Tanfield, Haverhill and Corby) to be reproduced on a small scale. A refurbishment plan is also underway for existing new product development (NPD) facilities at Haverhill.

Innovations controller, Lynn Saul, says, “Our investment in these new NPD facilities highlights the importance of innovation to our growth plans. My team have successfully launched products out of our previous (albeit limited) facilities, so with these improvements we are confident of even more exciting developments to come”

Intersnack is a major UK private label and branded snack supplier and owner of the Penn State Pretzel, Pom-Bear Percy Daltons and Imperial brands. With turnover currently around £80 million, Intersnack has expanded substantially in the past three years through a combination of organic growth and acquisition. Intersnack in the UK is part of the family-owned Intersnack Group – Europe’s No.2 snack manufacturer, producing 400,000 tonnes of snack products a year with businesses in 14 European countries and employing over 6,000 people.
