The academy of chocolate announces its fifth awards

The Academy of Chocolate has announced that its fifth Awards will take place in March 2011. The internationally recognised awards are judged by members of the Academy and a panel of journalists, chefs and experts.

The Academy of Chocolate promotes better chocolate and a greater awareness of the difference between fine chocolate and mass-produced chocolate confectionery. Sara Jayne Stanes, chairman of the Academy of Chocolate, says, “We look forward to a particularly exciting contest this year. The aim is quite simply to recognise the world’s finest chocolates. The Awards are an essential part of the work of the Academy. They play a vital role in promoting an understanding of the ingredients of chocolate, of what makes a truly good chocolate, throughout the chain of production, from bean to bar. The standard of entries gets better each year and as the Awards now attract hundreds of entries, the judges are in for some long hard work and for some sensational tasting’.

The categories include: Best dark bean to bar, Best flavoured dark and milk bars, Best filled chocolate, Best milk and dark truffle, Best drinking chocolate and Best packaging. The finest entries in each category will be recognised with the Academy’s coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards. Top awards will be given to Best Bean to Bar dark chocolate (The Golden Bean Award) and Best Filled Chocolate.

More details and the complete entry form are available from: http://www.academyofchocolate.org.uk/academy/awards/2010.html

The deadline for entries is 25th February 2011 with judging taking place on 15th, 16th, 22nd & 23rd March 2010. The winners will be announced in April 2011.
