Top trends of 2017

As 2017 nears to a close, we’re looking at what the most-read articles to appear on the Confectionery Production website were this year.

In terms of news, readers are always keen to learn more about key industry trends, with clean label ingredients, plant based products and alternative sugars topping the list this year, according to Innova Market Insights. Ingredients as a whole hit the spot with readers in 2017, with three of the top five news articles focusing on ingredients, including cocoa bean stocks and the use of stevia in sugar and gum confectionery. The news that Mars Wrigley was to unveil 20 new confectionery products in the US also got readers excited as the company showcased Alert Caffeine Gum, Extra Chewy Mints, Skittles and Starburst Sweet Heat, Snickers Peanut Butter Crisper, among others.

In terms of the most-read features, a look at the packaging side of chocolate came in at number one. The article focuses on the technology and packaging systems behind Ritter Sport’s chocolate wrappers. An article on why modern temperature controllers play a vital role in chocolate production came in at number two, which discusses roasting and tempering processes. An overview of mogul technology and a look at what was on show at international processing and packaging fair Interpack also made the top five.
