Zertus enters UK market

UK confectionery and snacks manufacturer Zetar has accepted a £43million offer from German food group Zertus.

The acquisition would give Zertus its first presence in the UK. Commenting on the offer, Jörn Riemer, director of Zertus and Zertus UK, says, “The directors of Zertus view Zetar as a particularly well managed confectionery and snacks business with leading market positions in the UK and Ireland. We are impressed by Zetar’s proven track record for innovation and brand building and are excited about the prospect of jointly expanding our enlarged portfolio of products to new markets. We look forward to welcoming the Zetar management team and employees to our group.”

The confectionery division accounts for approximately two thirds of the Zetar Group’s total revenue. It manufactures a range of seasonal and everyday chocolates including chocolate bars, coated and boxed chocolates, advent calendars, Easter eggs and allergy-free chocolate. In addition to private label and sub-contract manufacture, the confectionery division manufactures character licensed chocolates for children and also manufactures chocolate under a number of brands, including Baileys, Famous Grouse and Tango.

The natural snacks division accounts for approximately one third of the Zetar Group’s revenue. It is a supplier of a range of dried and fruit snacks, raw and cooked nuts, mixes and related snacks, under private label and sub-contract manufacture. This division includes the Fruit Factory and Humdinger brands as well as flavoured nuts under recognised licenced brands including Guinness, Reggae Reggae and Marmite
