Madagascan chocolate brand Madécasse has added a Salted Almond variant as it continues to see interest and sales grow in the UK.

Made with one of Madagascar’s rare heirloom cocoa varieties, the Salted Almond bar features dark chocolate that’s sprinkled with roasted almond nibs and sea salt. The unique, single-origin chocolate bars are made in small batches using the finest organic Madagascan cocoa and do not contain any artificial additives or preservatives.

Joining Espresso Bean, Cinnamon & Chilli Pepper, Sea Salt & Nibs and Toasted Coconut, the new Salted Almond line is available in a 75g format.

Company co-founder and co-CEO Brett Beach comments: “The excitement around the brand has continued to build since its launch in the UK last year and the range extension will help us to continue that momentum while further strengthening the offering. Dark chocolate and almonds is one of the world’s most popular flavour combinations so we are confident the Salted Almond bar will be a big hit within the multiple and independent channels.”

One of a growing number of companies looking to go beyond traditional fair trade, Madécasse was founded in 2008 by Brett Beach and Tim McCollum who spent eight years working as volunteers and development project managers in Madagascar, which is one of the world’s poorest countries. Shocked that 65 per cent of the world’s cocoa came from Africa but less than one per cent of chocolate was made there, the duo set out to try and change that. The brand is now sold throughout the US, the UK and in eight countries around the world.

Madécasse is Fair for Life certified, meaning that fair trade principles are applied throughout the entire chocolate trade chain. The company aims to create change through chocolate by working closely with local cocoa co-operatives and providing training, infrastructure and equipment in order to produce finished products entirely in Madagascar.
