Biscuits mark Royal birth

1500 limited edition, hand-packed, engraved tins of shortbread petticoat tails went on sale in 10 Marks & Spencer stores on 25 July, just hours after the announcement of the Royal Baby’s name.

The biscuits are made to an exclusive recipe baked at Burton’s Biscuit Company’s bakery in Edinburgh.

Each tin has a unique limited edition number etched onto it, along with the Prince’s date of birth and the following message: ‘Congratulations to the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge’. Specialist engravers in St Helens worked throughout the night to ensure that all 1500 tins were ready to go into stores the next day.

Karen Bates, Burton’s Biscuit Company, said: “We’ve been glued to the TV and Twitter for the last few weeks waiting for the royal arrival and it has been an extremely busy 24 hours, but we’re proud to have helped Marks & Spencer to celebrate this momentous occasion with a unique commemorative biscuit tin. We’re proud to have played our part in creating a piece of royal history.”

The first four tins were sent to the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge, the Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Middletons.

Burton’s Biscuit Company has also produced printed versions of the tin, due to go on sale in the coming days.
