Energy bar breakthrough for IBS sufferers

US food business Rachel Pauls Food has launched by introducing an energy bar range that has been specifically developed for IBS sufferers.

The Happy Bars, founder Dr Rachel Pauls Food says, are a breakthrough for sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) as they are scientifically verified to contain less than 0.5 grams of total Fodmaps per serving.

Fodmaps (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides and Polyols) are carbohydrates that can trigger gas, bloating, cramping, diarrhea and constipation. Extensive medical research shows that following a low Fodmap eating plan can help eliminate digestive discomfort.

The bars are available in four flavours: Chocolate Chip Delight, Orange Chocolate Ecstasy, Peanut Chocolate Euphoria and Peanut Maple Pleasure.

“Twenty to 40% of visits to GI doctors are for IBS symptoms, and avoiding foods that trigger flare ups is an effective treatment,” says Pauls. “Following a low Fodmap diet is often more successful than costly medications that have side effects.”

Each Happy Bar contains simple, natural ingredients, with eight to 10 grams of protein and three grams of fibre. At 210-215 calories each, the bars feature healthy fats derived from either peanuts or almonds, and contain no preservatives.
