Halloween favourites return

This autumn will see the return of Halloween favourites from the McVitie’s Cake Company (MCC), plus a new Bonfire Toffee flavoured Whole Cake.

Having grown by 19% (AC Nielsen Total Coverage 8 Halloween Cake w/e 20.11.12) in the past two years, cake is the largest snacking category at Halloween presenting retailers with a fantastic sales opportunity.

Following their launch last year, McVitie’s Screamin’ Sours Cake Bars will return once more to MCC’s seasonal range. The Cake Bars include a purple sponge topped with a sour blackcurrant jam, covered in dark chocolate, giving consumers a blackcurrant sour sensation.

McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Spooky Cake Bars are also back by popular demand. The packaging is now more “spooky”, featuring more slime and a haunted house, giving consumers an even eerier eating experience. The cake bar features a ghoulish blend of dark crackly chocolate and light sponge with a zingy orange centre.

Completing the cake bar line up this Halloween is the McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes Lemon & Slime Cake Bars which will haunt retailer shelves and give consumers a fun-sized treat of dark chocolate, light sponge and a lemon and lime centre.  The range of cake bars will be available to retailers from early September in packs of 5 cake bars at a MRRP of £1.20.

Especially for Bonfire night, MCC is launching a new McVitie’s Tate & Lyle Bonfire Toffee Flavour Cake to provide consumers with the ideal bonfire night treat. Comprising of a delicious moist and sticky cake made with golden syrup and toffee flavourings, the new variant is perfect when enjoyed with fireworks on a cold autumn night. MCC is also bringing back the popular McVitie’s Tate & Lyle Sticky Toffee Apple Cake, which is a moist sticky toffee apple flavour cake made with Lyle’s Golden Syrup. This limited edition will be available from the end of August at a MRRP of £1.55.

David Fowler, marketing controller at McVitie’s Cake Company commented: “Cake still remains one of the fastest growing Halloween categories.  This, coupled with the increase in the number of people holding their own bonfire spectaculars, makes these seasonal occasions key sales opportunities for retailers.

We’d therefore recommend that retailers are stocked up with our full range of limited edition products and take the time to create seasonal displays to gain shopper attention in their store over the Halloween and Bonfire Night periods.”
