Japanese dessert lines

A British producer of luxury Japanese mochi has launched two product lines to retail after years supplying Japanese restaurants in the UK.

Little Moons frozen mochi ice cream comes in six unique flavours and has secured a listing with Whole Foods and Tsuki Mochi, which is a range of mochi truffles available in two varieties, has launched at Selfridges.

These listings are the start of a wider retail rollout for the business, which is on a mission to put mochi on the map in Britain. The company aims to tap into the current strength in demand for chilled desserts. This new development will build on the business’ strong performance in the hospitality sector, where it currently supplies four million pieces of mochi a year to leading Japanese restaurants.

Mochi is produced by skilfully steaming and then pounding rice flour until it gains the beautifully soft elasticity for which it is famous. The Little Moons and Tsuki Mochi range are made from scratch in London and are hand rolled according to the traditional method.

Little Moons mochi ice cream has updated the classic mochi recipe by adding artisan gelato in six contemporary flavours: Toasted Sesame Mochi Ice Cream; Vanilla Mochi Ice Cream; Coconut Mochi Ice Cream; Matcha Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream; Mango Mochi Ice Cream; and Raspberry Mochi Ice Cream.

The Tsuki Mochi truffles are available from Selfridges in a box of four in two unique editions, Yuzu Lemon Cheesecake and Dark Chocolate.
