Gum revival

Compared to other confectionery, the gum sector significantly lacks innovation. Growth of gum has definitely stagnated in the US and Western Europe, whereas Asia and Latin America are still experiencing growth.

In order to see an increase in sales we need a gum manufacturer to come up with something new, something different from the standard sugar free mint flavour. In the hard bubble gum market, no branded products have a significant share. This represents a huge opportunity.

Leaf Confectionery, manufacturer of Chewits has decided to enter the gum market with the launch of Chewie Gum. The Chewits brand already has a loyal following from adults and children, and is likely to help retailers to drive gum sales.

If the launch proves successful, it is likely we will see more and more branded products enter the gum arena. With more competition, manufacturers become more innovative to stand out.

So watch this space, we could be seeing a gum revival in the near future.
